Mead TM005X-M Review by Keith Hopper (Peachtree City, GA United States)
This device was very easy to set up and I had it working quickly. I have no way to judge its accuracy but the outdoor sensor and indoor unit agree when placed side by side. I like the big read out. It probably deserves five stars but it stopped working briefly and I just experimented...finally removed batts from the main unit and reinstalled...and it came right back to life. So what, I re-boot my computer several times a day. It does have a very clever pull-out stand that I didn't discover for a few weeks.
Mead TM005X-M Review by L. Jacobson "Snakeeye" (Aurora, CO)
The trick to this thing working accurately is putting both the indoor and outdoor units in the right place. Given our layout, that's easier said than done with the outdoor unit since we get blasted by sun from multiple directions. The indoor unit is obviously easier to place--we quickly learned that we'd get a much more accurate reading when not mounting it on an exterior-facing wall. It now sits on a table in the middle of the house and it is quite accurate. Anyway, my only other point would be that it would be nice if the unit had a light. Overall, I'd recommend this thermometer.
Mead TM005X-M Review by Jonathan (New York, NY USA)
I've just set this up in the last two hours. I was very happy that the two remote sensors gave the exact same temperature and humidity reading after they had time to settle in. The main base though gave a temperature reading of about 1.2 degrees higher than the two sensors. That's okay though because I already know whether it's too hot or cold where I'm sitting right next to the base.
When I put the outdoor sensor outside, it at first looked like it was going to be way off on the humidity. My old outdoor thermometer said it was 29.1 degrees outside. The closest Weatherbug station to my house said it was 53% humidity. So when I put the outdoor sensor outside, it gradually made its way down from 70 to 29.1 (took about 45 minutes actually)! But it's initial humidity reading said 33%! It scared me that it was going to be way off. But right now, after an hour of settling in, it says the temp is 29.1 and the humidity is 52%! So it looks like it's dead on accurate. Very happy about that!
One problem was I ordered an additional sensor. It can support up to three - on three separate channels. You're supposed to take the back cover off of each one and set a little switch to either Channel 1, 2 or 3. It picks up the main sensor fine on channel one. However, it didn't pick up the second sensor. So I called Meade and they immediately said they'd send a new sensor out at no charge. They said something may have been wrong with the switch mechanism. I was very happy they offered to replace it with no hassle or argument! If it doesn't work, I'll post an update here in a week and let you all know. So if you don't see an update you'll know it's working fine.
